THE ERIN DAVIS SHOW
Before we get started. Today, I just want to share about the visionary planning day that I am hosting in September at the beautiful Carrington house. Now this planning day is an opportunity to create a heart centred action plan which aligns with your unique vision for your business.
So it's all about giving yourself the luxury of space and time to create a very unique 90 day roadmap just for you and your business. I know that it's easy to get distracted when you're doing all the things, and it's hard to focus on that bigger picture, but it really is so important to have that bigger picture, so you know where you need to be focusing your time and to stop you from getting easily distracted.
I know that there is real power in pausing. And when you first step into Carrington house, it is the most beautiful location. You feel the weight lifted from your shoulders. It is just the place where you can come and relax and spend the day focusing just on your business and what's important for you.
I invite you to join me, plus a small group of like minded women. It's just a small group who together, we will come up with your plan for the next 90 days. And so while this plan is going to be specific for you, there is opportunity for connection and collaboration and support from other inspiring business women, so if you are keen to check it out, I would love to have you along. All of the details are at erindavis.com.au/planning and I will put all the links in the show notes. I really just can't wait for you to share this experience and really just set your business up so you have the right focus for the next 90 days. So having said that, let's get into today's episode.
Today's episode is all about an unconventional way for you to overcome your money blocks. Now we all know that money blocks are there, and sometimes they're sneaky little buggers that just hide and sit underneath the surface and don't really show up in a big way. However, they are really impacting you and your business, the way you think, the way you behave.
And I have a really unconventional way for you to overcome your money blocks. Now the reason why it's helpful to think of your money blocks in this way is because it really uncovers the subconscious beliefs which are deeply ingrained within us. So what I want you to do is grab a piece of paper and a pen and I want you to start journaling and just trust yourself.
Do it free journaling without filtering, without editing, and I want you to start with the prompt. I'm not allowed to have my dream life and the dream amount of money I want because….. and then I want you to free write. Do this for about 15 to 20 minutes. Sit in a quiet space and just write. I don't want you to filter it. I want you to just allow whatever it is that you're thinking and feeling to come out onto the paper.
So this is a bit different to conventional journaling, because it's not structured. Sometimes traditional journaling can be quite structured, and we're looking forward to what it is that we want and what we desire, manifesting those things that we desire. But I want you to turn this around and do it with “I'm not allowed to” and this really will bring out those subconscious beliefs that we have, which, like I said before are, deeply ingrained within us.
It also encourages us to have emotional expression, because free flow writing provides you with a really safe space to express your emotions like fear and shame and anxiety without any judgement. This writing is just for you. Nobody is going to see it, nobody is going to read it. However, it can be so insightful and provide so much information for you when you just allow yourself to free write.
Now I'd also do this with handwriting rather than typing, because typing is easy to edit, and we don't want to edit. We want to just allow our thoughts to hit the paper and just continue. We want to stay in that flow and do whatever you need to do to be able to stay in that beautiful, flowing space, because when you reread what you've written, it will highlight some really important things that you probably haven't been aware of in the past, these subconscious beliefs that we have.
They are our truth. That is what we think, that is what we see, and the more they are ingrained in us, the more we believe it, and it's our truth. It's 100% our truth, and it's really hard to see anything as an alternative when we have our blinkers on and we are just so focused on that space.
So when you put it on paper, it gives you a different perspective. You're able to see things with a different lens, rather than just what you always think and feel, because we're able to manipulate what we believe to be what we're seeing out in the world.
So if this is something that you know in your heart is true, but it's actually not serving you, then your subconscious is going to keep repeating these beliefs and this situation in a way that makes sense to you, and it will keep you safe, because your unconscious wants to keep you safe. It doesn't want to put you out there, because there might be fear of judgement or there might be fear of shame or anxiety that's caused by it. So whatever those subconscious beliefs and thoughts are, your brain is keeping you or keeping them real for you. So get them out, put them on paper. Just allow yourself to free write. Have that emotional expression, and you may notice some patterns and triggers which are really important. The act of writing can give you that clarity and the insight that you're looking for and I think that some of those money blocks that might come up could be a fear of conflict.
You know you don't want to have your dream life, or have the amount of money that you dream of or that you want, because you have this fear of discussing money. Maybe you struggle to negotiate your prices, maybe you struggle to negotiate your value for your services, and you want to keep everybody happy. So under pricing really avoids conversation and it avoids that conflict that we sometimes feel, and a lot of women are in that softer, more gentle, more flowy state. And conflict doesn't come easy to a lot of us, and not that we want it to be easy however, we want to keep the peace. We want things to run smoothly. We are the peacemakers, and that comes at a detriment to ourselves, of pricing what we need to price, valuing our services and negotiating what is right for us. We want to keep everybody else happy and sacrifice what it is that we need.
So another thing that may come up is that you feel guilty about being wealthy. And you know guilt can come up about earning more money, especially if it comes at the expense of others. Again, this comes back to us, we don't want to raise our prices. We don't want to accumulate wealth because then we're selfish or we're sacrificing others. You know, maybe one of your beliefs is that wealth is selfish or that financial success should be shared. And now, if you have those beliefs, it's going to be really hard for you to accumulate wealth and create wealth within your business when you always have this mindset of being wealthy is selfish. So this free writing and the unconventional way of uncovering these money blocks is really important to dig a little deeper and see what is happening under the surface.
There is another one that a lot of women have, and this is not necessarily only relating to money, but it is perfectionism. And I know that there's a lot of discussion about perfectionism, and we say it done is better than perfect, and it totally is. But when you are in that constant state of needing to have everything perfect before you raise your prices or before you launch your new product, it really stops you and you procrastinate because you're waiting for that perfect moment.
You're waiting for things to be perfect before you put them out into the world. So that idea of creating wealth and creating your dream life and having the amount of money that you want in the bank is really halted because of this need to have everything perfect. So perfectionism is one that comes up in a lot of areas in our lives as women, and I know for me, it has definitely been there as a sneaky little bugger under the surface that I didn't really quite realise that perfectionism really impacted me, however, when I started to look a little deeper and look a little closer, actually pay attention to what it is. Yeah, I procrastinate and I did hold off on doing things because I didn't think that I was ready. I didn't think that I had enough to offer, or that what I had to offer was not of a high enough standard, which is funny, isn't it, because we all have something to offer, and people are out there wanting what you have to offer, but it's that belief in yourself that we can't start unless we have it all figured out, and unless we're all perfect and and our products and services are perfect, so maybe not necessarily us, but what it is that we have to offer is perfect. It's ready to go. It's perfectly curated and designed wonderfully, looks amazing, feels amazing, and then we're ready to go. But that then is holding you back from seeking those opportunities, you know, putting your first foot forward to jump at those opportunities, and it's really stopping you from putting yourself out there. Because, you know, when we're not all perfect, nobody is perfect, and that idea of being judged by others is really quite limiting.
So another area that may be highlighted through your free journaling is that a lot of women have this limited vision of success. We're quite narrow minded and quite stuck in that tunnel vision of what success looks like. And now this is particularly important if you haven't been around successful women in the past who can show you that things can be done. We only know what we know, and it's not until you put yourself in a position where you are able to learn from others and see what they do, experience how they behave, learn what they do, just how they show up.
When you're not in that situation, it's really limiting and constrictive to what your big dreams are. And so one of those ideas of I'm not allowed to have money, or I'm not allowed to have my dream life is because I'm not entitled to it. I'm not deserving of it. I'm not ready for it. People like me don't have those types of dreams or that type of success, and that is because we're just limiting ourselves. We're not aware of what the opportunities are. And sometimes it's even like, I don't know how, I don't know how to create that. And so when you can start to drill down a little bit into what it is that's stopping you from creating that dream life that you want and creating the financial freedom that you want. It then allows you the opportunity to choose what it is that you do with that information, so you could choose to hire a coach, become financially literate and learn as much as you can about money and about business. You know, there may be different aspects of your business that are holding you back. Maybe it's content creation, maybe it's social media. Maybe it's, I don't know what sort of insurance to have, or I don't know what my bookkeeping needs to be. It can be a whole range of things. Or maybe it's everything, and when you are not sure of how to do that, and you don't have a role model, or somebody that you know that is actually doing it, then it is really hard to know exactly where to start.
So if you're in that position, I would suggest that the first step is talking to your accountant. They can give you that starting point, particularly around the numbers, particularly around the finances. And then have a look at what else is it that you need to do to put yourself into a position where you're able to learn from others? Maybe it's others in your industry. There's plenty of opportunity and there's plenty of success that can be had by everybody. You need to find yourself in a group of people who celebrate success, who want success, and who encourage everybody to have success, because there is enough to go around and there is more than enough to go around.
So it's about finding those people who will teach you just by doing what they're doing, and when you can learn from them, ask questions, even just watch what it is that they're doing, that vision of success will broaden and it will allow you to break free from those limited, restrictive ideas of success that you've had.
The last one that I want to share is that fear of visibility and being seen. So maybe that I'm not allowed to have that dream life and the money that I want is because I don't want to put myself out there. It's that fear of judgement. It's the fear of standing up in front of people. Maybe it's fear of public speaking. I would never have stood up in front of anybody to do any public speaking whatsoever. I used to feel sick at school, even at work, having all eyes on me, looking at me while I presented, just used to make me feel sick. And it wasn't until I resolved my issues with that fear of judgement and everybody looking at me that I could before I could stand up in front of people. Now I absolutely love it. I still get nervous, I still get worried, but I feel confident in what I am speaking about. I feel confident in myself to be able to stand up in front of a room and share what it is that I know.
So that fear of being seen and the fear of visibility, it can attract criticism, and it definitely will attract judgement, because let's be honest, we all judge everybody, whether we do it intentionally or not, we all have a judgement about everything. It's about creating the space within you to know your self worth, to know your value, to understand that value and to really celebrate it, because there are people out there that want to hear what you have to say, and if you are limiting yourself because of you're avoiding that criticism or that judgement, you know you're holding yourself back and avoiding the self promotion. You're not showcasing your full expertise.
Now that is definitely going to be a limiting belief and a money block that you have and will keep you in that space where you're not achieving those big dreams and goals that you had.
So I hope that it is helpful today to use that unconventional way to uncover your money blocks. Now, as I said before, I would take some time, 10 to 15 or 15 to 20 minutes by yourself in a nice, quiet space, hand writing with a pen and a paper. I know it's very unconventional and old school, but when you're able to write and allow your thoughts to just flow, that is when you get that unfiltered, real conversation that's going on in your head. And when you can do that, you can then start to uncover what those deep money blocks are. I suspect that these are not just money blocks, they're actual blocks in holding you back across all areas of your business and your life.
Because remember, for women, most of us, everything is intertwined. It is all connected. So if it is showing up in your business, it is more than likely showing up in your life as well. So I hope that helps let me know I would love to hear what it is that you've come up with with this unconventional way of uncovering a money block. So send me a message across the socials, or send me an email and let me know, because I am really curious to see what you uncover with this unconventional way to discover your money blocks.
