THE ERIN DAVIS SHOW
Today, I want to share with you five hacks to grow your money and grow your confidence. As I launched this podcast, it's almost the end of the financial year, which is a perfect time to sit down and revisit these things. Having said that, though, these are the types of questions that I think you should be asking yourself throughout the year, whether it's monthly or quarterly. But definitely at the end of the financial year when you're getting ready to reset and start again.
So here are my 5 hacks that I want to share with you to grow your confidence and grow your money.
The first hack is all about your money story. It's becoming aware of what that money story is, and then reframing it. It’s important that the story you're telling yourself aligns with abundance and expansion and growth, because the stories we tell ourselves play out, most of the time unconsciously. And if we are continuously thinking that we can't put ourselves out there, we can't ask for money. There's a scarcity mindset. Money's dirty or I don't deserve that, then it really is going to repel those clients coming towards you. And it is going to limit what it is that you need to do in order to grow your business and step it up. So that's the first hack, look at your money story and reframe it.
The second money hack, and confidence hack is having a money date. Now that money date can be with yourself, it can be with your business coach, it can be with your partner. But it’s really important for you to take some time out and look at your numbers, because as you know, I'm all about the numbers. But numbers aren’t the only part of it. They are such a crucial aspect of running a business and I see so many women in my accounting world that really don't understand their numbers. So while numbers aren’t the only thing, they are one crucial element. So I would schedule a money date whether it’s every month or every quarter, at least every quarter. And particularly around this time of year again, sit down and check out where you are, check your balances, check your debt levels and get a really good understanding of where it is that you’re at. And just make it a habit. Because habits allow you to take action, they keep you accountable, and it keeps you on track. So if you have a money date with yourself or somebody else, like I said, it’s important that you stay accountable to yourself.
So the next hack, number three is practising gratitude and abundance. Now this may seem a little woowoo and a little out there, particularly when we're talking about money. However, like you know, I think everything is connected - money, mindset and confidence. And when you practise gratitude, you see the abundance, you feel the abundance, because as women, we need to feel things. When you can start to really appreciate that and hold the joy and the gratitude, everything changes. You start to see more abundance around you, you see more opportunities around you. You get to see that it’s possible and what's out there for you. And I think if you have that gratitude, you start to look for more gratitude. The little things don't seem to worry you quite as much because you're focused on the big picture and you're looking at what it is that you can do to continue to make you feel abundant and grateful for what it is that you have. When you start to have that abundance and gratitude, your confidence and peace within yourself will increase. So that is my hack number three, practice gratitude and abundance. I’d suggest practising gratitude, first thing in the morning or last thing before you go to bed, but make it a regular practice. Because they say that when you focus on that gratitude, and that abundance, you're looking for it. And it's not just the big things, it can be tiny little things. When you start to put those moments of joy, the little moments of joy together, they then become big things. So I think sometimes we focus on the big picture too much. And we forget about all of these little incidental moments of gratitude and abundance and joy that we have that can lead to feeling so content within our life and within our business.
And as business women, we need to be looking for that calmness and the flow and the energy, because everything is energy.
The next hack that I have is investing in your financial education. The rates of financial illiteracy in Australia are shocking. 48% of women are financially illiterate. And that really surprised me when I learnt about it because I deal with a lot of smart, intelligent women who come to me and just have this fear around money. They’re frightened of it. They feel like they don't understand and from that, they don't make decisions, they hold themselves back because they have this fear of not knowing enough. So in order to grow your money, and grow your confidence in this next financial year, I would challenge you to look at the areas where you need to improve your financial literacy. And now financial literacy is being able to make a decision and feel comfortable about it, understand it and really just embracing the opportunities. It's not being frightened, it's not being scared. It's about asking questions, and asking for help when you need the help without shame or without judgement. So I think being able to empower yourself to improve your money understanding, because that's really what it is, understanding your money, feeling comfortable with your money, knowing where it's coming from and knowing where it's going. Being able to make decisions is really empowering and that will grow your confidence.
And the last hack that I have for you is to celebrate your money wins. I know I get caught up in being so busy during the day or in my day to day that I forget to celebrate those wins and it then makes everything just snowball into day after day, day after day. It becomes like Groundhog Day. So I think really taking some time out to celebrate your wins. Look at how far you've come by reflecting on the last 12 months. Embrace where you are right now. I've spoken a little bit in the past about the messy middle and the messy middle can be really hard and it can feel really confronting and challenging. However, I think when you start to stop and reflect and look at what it is that you’ve achieved and embrace the money wins your confidence growth, your whole overall energy again, improves and you start to feel better.
And when you start to feel better, you see more abundance, you see more opportunities. I think as women we forget to celebrate those wins. Now these celebrations don't have to be huge. You can have huge celebrations, obviously. But I think it's about bringing them into your daily, weekly, monthly, whatever cycle it needs to be but bringing it into your routine and really making it a focus. So potentially, it is about every quarter, sitting down looking though these five hacks together and celebrating where you are and enjoying being in business because as we know being in business is really really hard and most people don't do it. Because it is so hard. So I want you to celebrate where you're at, what you've achieved and what you've done. Because I know that when you celebrate more of that it feels good and it drives you and pushes you towards what it is that you really want. And remember we started in business for a reason. Most of the time, it's not about the money, it is actually what money provides. So I think celebrate what it is that that money has given you and feel good, embrace it, allow yourself to be happy and enjoy what it is that you have achieved.
So as we wrap up and we're getting close to the end of the financial year, here are my five hacks to grow your confidence and grow your money. So I'll just recap.
1. Reframe your money story.
2. Have money dates with yourself, with your coach or with your partner. Just make sure that you schedule them now. So they're in your calendar for the next 12 months.
3. I want you to practise gratitude and abundance. And I would be making that a daily habit because the more you focus on, the more you see,
4. Invest in your financial education. Look at where you need some help, and make it a priority to understand your numbers and become financially literate.
5. Celebrate your wins
So they are my top five hacks to grow your confidence and grow your wealth. If you are looking for more, and you're looking to really nail down and knuckle down on what it is that you want for the next 12 months, I have a success checklist. I will put it in the show notes. It is www.erindavis.com.au/success In there, I go through some questions that I feel are really important, particularly at this time of the year as you're setting yourself up for the next financial year.
